I am enthusiastic about teaching science and strive to meet every student's needs. Dear Seventh Grade Parents and Guardians: Welcome to Mesabi East High School. I am your child's seventh grade science teacher and I hope that your child's year is an exciting and memorable one. In order to guarantee your child and all the students in our school the excellent learning climate they deserve, the following information will allow you and your student insight as to how to be successful in this class. Seventh Grade Life Science: The purpose of the seventh grade science course is to allow students to gain an understanding of the building blocks of life and living systems and interactions of living things in nature. Resources we will use for science readings will be electronic and available in Schoology and others will be supplied in class and entered by students into their notebooks. Requirements: Classes will be every day and students will need a notebook and something to write with every day in addition to their (charged) school-supplied ipad. |

Grading: Grades will be based on percentage points. During the course of each grading period, you will be expected to complete a variety of assignments: homework, notebook, or in-class work, projects, unit tests (summative assessments), quizzes (formative assessments), and of course, science labs. The students will be assessed throughout the year on core skills or learning targets. Your grade will be reflection of how well you demonstrated mastery of these seventh grade science standards.
Summative Assessments: 80% Summative assessments are based on the core skills or learning targets, also known as the "I can statements" that students are expected to master as part of the course. These learning targets are based on the Minnesota Department of Education's academic content standards. Summative assessments may include tests, lab skill demonstration, or projects. Formative Assessments: 20% Formative assessments will also based on the core skills or learning targets, also known as the "I can statements" that the students are using as small assignments designed to help students practice the new skills and concepts. These assignments might include, but are not limited to entrance/exit tickets, journals, quizzes, notebook reflections, and small in class assignments which if not finished turn into homework to be completed and submitted prior to the next class period. |
